Title:Flower Show, Normanby Show, Normanby Hall, 24 July 1907.
Description:Horticultural display at the Normanby Show. Normanby Show began in 1884 and took place every year until 1914. Although it was a hugely popular event in the area it was never successfully revived after the First World War. It was organised by the Normanby Estates Agricultural and Horticultural Society and held in the grounds of the Hall. Events that took place at the day long show included the playing of two military bands, Penny Farthing bicycle races, horticultural display’s, marquees containing agricultural horses, cattle, fruit, pigs, poultry, sheep and vegetable among other things. A lunch was held costing 2/6d and was presided over by Sir Berkeley. Several sporting events also took place including novelty races including the ‘apple race’ and the ‘egg and ladle race mounted’. More serious competitions also took place showing agricultural livestock and horticulture and produce. The highlight for many was the fireworks display at the end of the evening followed by a rendition of ‘God Save the King’, or ‘God Save the Queen’ for the years preceding 1901. Special late trains were then laid on which ran from Froddingham station to Grimsby and to Barnsley.
